Made in the USA - food for thought

From Pride in America.... http://news.prideinamericanow.com/

When America was founded, the people supported each other; they sacrificed “in order to form a more perfect union”. They understood the power of their dollar. For instance, even though they enjoyed English tea, they boycotted the tea and fought for their freedom. They sacrificed a pleasure, which they once enjoyed. They kept their eye on the big picture. They knew that each individual action they took, when combined with the actions of others, would form a great country. Out of their commitment and dedication, they were able to form, America, the greatest country in the world.

Our generation has lost sight of the big picture. Too many people are only thinking of “what is in it for me”. Not enough people are thinking all the way through to the end. What happens when we purchase items from overseas? Where does our dollar go? What are we truly supporting? What is the environmental impact of shipping an item from half way around the world compared to purchasing the same item which is available right here?

It is in our power to secure American jobs and strengthen small businesses. These small businesses are the foundation of our economic condition. Every time we spend our dollar, we have the power to contribute to job security and to strengthen America. Pride in America ~ Our Economy and What YOU Can Do to Help, was written to make this process simple. So many people say, “We don’t make anything anymore”. Yes, WE do and Pride in America categorizes and lists the items to make supporting small businesses easy. When you glance through the many companies in this book, you can’t help but feel Pride to be an American!

George Washington said, “I use no porter or cheese in my family, but such as is made in America”!

We can, once again, form “a more perfect union”, step by step, day by day, as we take actions towards strengthening small businesses (America).

It’s up to US!!!

What to do when your bored......

These were way to funny not to share - you may find yourself laughing out loud!!

THINGS YOU CAN DO WITH ABSOLUTELY NOTHING

Blink wildly and then close your eyes really tight for an interesting light show
(Amusement Potential: 1-5 minutes)
See a variety of blobs, stars and flashes. Try to make out shapes and see if your subconscious is trying to send you a message (perhaps that funny shape is saying, 'send all your money to urban75.com'?)

See how long you can hold a note
(Amusement Potential: 4-20 minutes)
Not that much fun, but it sure passes the time. Play with a friend, or try to beat your own personal best. Inhale deeply and then try and make a noise for as long as you can. Earn extra points for making your partner laugh or ending on an amusing note.

Try to not think about penguins
(Amusement Potential: 1-5 minutes)
This is especially hard, because by trying too much, you remember what you were trying to avoid thinking of. If you try too little, you end up thinking about penguins anyway.

Use your secret mind power
(Amusement Potential: 5-10 minutes)
Pick a passing by and try to use your mind power to command them do something, like drop their bag or knock into someone. The law of averages dictates that sooner or later one of your mind commands will come true, so you can convince yourself that you really have super human powers and waste even more time trying them out.

Pretend you're a robot
(Amusement Potential: 1-3 minutes)
Walk down the street with mechanical movements, adding 'zzzzzt' sounds with each motion. Pretending to have a motor broken in, say, your left hand can add at least 30 seconds more entertainment.

Scratch yourself
(Amusement Potential: 1-3 minutes)
Go ahead, scratch yourself now. Even if nothing itches, go ahead. Doesn't that feel pretty good?

Repeat the same word over and over until it loses its meaning
(Amusement Potential: 1-3 minutes)
Pick a random word out of a magazine and say it aloud to yourself until it becomes a meaningless set of noises.

Pinch yourself
(Amusement Potential: 1-3 minutes)
What is pain? Why is it unpleasant? There's nothing physical about it - it's all in your mind. Plus, after pinching yourself for awhile, boredom will seem nice next to being in pain.

Try to swallow your tongue
(Amusement Potential: 1-2 minutes)
There's not much to say about this one. It is possible, but really stupid.

Pretend to be a car
(Amusement Potential: 5-10 minutes)
Make appropriate revving noises in your head as you walk along and add a racing commentary as you pass strangers in the street. Use blinking eyes as indicators for extra authenticity.

Make Star Trek door noises
(Amusement Potential: 1-2 minutes)
Stand by an electric door to a bank or something and make that silly "Scccccccchwop" sound heard whenever people popped on to the bridge to hang with Captain Kirk.

Look at something for awhile, shut eyes, study after image
(Amusement Potential: 2-5 minutes)
Another great time waster. It takes about 30 seconds of staring to create an after image, and the image is then viewable for about the same length of time. Fun to combine this one with pushing on your eyes.

Get yourself as nauseated as possible
(Amusement Potential: 5-10 minutes)
Best achieved by looking straight up and spinning around. Try to be so dizzy you can't even stand up. This is also entertaining due to the "makes boredom seem a lot better" effect (see "Hurt Yourself").

Invent a weird twitch
(Amusement Potential: 5-10 minutes)
Adopt a bizarre twitch (e.g. flicking your head irregularly, twitching with eye or busting out sporadic cough noises) and try it out when you go shopping.

Make a low buzzing noise
(Amusement Potential: 15-30 minutes)
Hours of fun in libraries! Keeping a totally straight face and looking nonchalant, make a low pitch humming/buzzing noise and see who reacts.

God's bountiful harvest

I am constantly amazed at the wonder of nature...When we came to this property 10 years ago, we began planting fruit trees - a couple every year. We follow the Torah's instructions in planting trees so we didn't eat the fruit until the fifth year...

Lev 19:23 And when ye shall come into the land, and shall have planted all manner of trees for food, then ye shall count the fruit thereof as uncircumcised: three years shall it be as uncircumcised unto you: it shall not be eaten of.

Lev 19:24 But in the fourth year all the fruit thereof shall be holy to praise the LORD.

Lev 19:25 And in the fifth year shall ye eat of the fruit thereof, that it may yield unto you the increase thereof: I [am] the LORD your God.

Earlier in the season, Dennis sprayed the tree with neem oil to run off any pests or fungas that might be coming our way. The result is a beautiful, bug free, fungus free harvest of large plums. This year the tree is so full I'm wondering how to steward all the fruit!!

Today we are making jam but tomorrow I'll probably make this wonderful recipe I found at All Recipes.com. Not only can we use our plums, but wonderful ricotta we made using our goat milk!

Maple Ricotta Parfait with Almonds and Plums

INGREDIENTS
1 tablespoon butter
1/3 cup maple syrup, divided
6 black plums, pitted and sliced
1 1/4 cups part-skim ricotta cheese
1/2 cup sliced California Almonds, roasted*

DIRECTIONS
Heat butter in a saute pan. Add 2 tablespoons maple syrup, and gently stir in plum slices. Cook on medium heat just until plums are soft and giving out some juice, but still holding their shape.
Meanwhile, stir together the remaining maple syrup and ricotta. Set aside.
Divide 1/2 cup prepared plum slices among 4 clear bowls or brandy glasses. Follow with a layer of ricotta mixture, then remaining plum slices, and then the remaining ricotta mixture. Drizzle with remaining maple syrup, and sprinkle with roasted almonds.
FOOTNOTE
*To roast almonds, place a single layer on a baking sheet and bake in a preheated 350 degrees F oven for 10 minutes, stirring at least once to ensure even roasting. Almonds will continue to brown after being removed from the oven.

Swine Flu - From Dr Gitterle

This comes from a friend of mine whose grandchildren are in Comal County, TX schools. The schools have been closed for the next two weeks.

Subject: FLU INFO FROM DR. GITTERLE

Friends, this is from an ER doctor in New Braunfels, TX

It is more comprehensive than other things I've seen.

Date: Wed, 29 Apr 2009 08:55:31 -0500

Subject: Flu Update from Dr. Marcus Gitterle

After I returned from a public health meeting yesterday with community
leaders and school officials in Comal County , Heather suggested I send an
update to everyone, because what we are hearing privately from the CDC and
Health Department is so different from what you are hearing in the media.
Some of you know some or maybe all of this, but I will just list what facts
I know.

- The virus is infectious for about 2 days prior to symptom onset

- Virus sheds more than 7 days after symptom onset (possibly as long as 9
days) (this is unusual)

- Since it is such a=2 0novel (new) virus, there is no "herd immunity," so
the "attack rate" is very high. This is the percentage of people who come
down with a virus if exposed. Almost everyone who is exposed to this virus
will become infected, though not all will be symptomatc. That is much higher
than seasonal flu, which averages 10-15%. The "clinical attack rate" may be
around 40-50%. This is the number of people who show symptoms. This is a
huge number. It is hard to convey the seriousness of this.

- The virulence (deadliness) of this virus is as bad here as in Mexico , and
there are folks on ventilators here in the US , right now. This has not been
in the media, but a 23 month old near here is fighting for his life, and a
pregnant woman just south of San Antonio is fighting for her life. In
Mexico , these folks might have died already, but here in the US , folks are
getting Tamiflu or Relenza quickly, and we have ready access to ventilators.
What this means is that within a couple of weeks, regional hospitals will
likely become overwhelmed.

- Some of the kids with positive cases in Comal County had more than 70
contacts before diagnosis.

- There are 10-25 times more actual cases (not "possible" cases -- actual),
than what is being reported in the media. The way they fudge on reporting
this is that it takes 3 days to get the confirmatory nod from the CDC on a
given viral culture, but based on epidemiological grounds, we know that
there are more than 10 cases for each20"confirmed" case right now.

- During the night, we crossed the threshold for the definition of a WHO,
Phase 6 global pandemic. This has not happened in any of our lifetimes so
far. We are in uncharted territory.

- I expect President Obama will declare an emergency sometime in the next
72-96 hours. This may not happen, but if it doesn't, I will be surprised.
When this happens, all public gathering will be cancelled for 10 days.

- I suggest all of us avoid public gatherings. Outdoor activities are not as
likely to lead to infection. It is contained areas and close contact that
are the biggest risk.

- Tamiflu is running out. There is a national stockpile, but it will have to
be carefully managed, as it is not enough to treat the likely number of
infections when this is full-blown. I don't think there is a big supply of
Relenza, but I do not know those numbers. If I had to choose, I would take
Relenza, as I think it gets more drug to the affected tissue than Tamiflu.

- You should avoid going to the ER if you think you have been exposed or are
symptomatic. ER's south of here are becoming overwhelmed -- and I mean
that -- already. It is coming in waves, but the waves are getting bigger.

- It appears that this flu produces a distinctive "hoarseness" in many
victims. The symptoms, in general, match other flu's; namely, sore throat,
body aches, headache, cough, and fever. Some have all these symptoms, while
others may have only one or=2 0two.

- N-Acetyl-Cysteine -- a nutritional supplement available at the health food
store or Wimberley Pharmacy, has been shown to prevent or lessen the
severity of influenza. I suggest 1200mg, twice a day for adults, and 600mg
twice a day in kids over 12. It would be hard to get kids under 12 to take
it, but you could try opening the capsules and putting it on yogurt. For 40
pounds and up, 300-600 mg twice a day, for less than 40 pounds, half that.

- Oscillococinum, a homeopathic remedy, has been vindicated as quite
effective in a large clinical trial in Europe , with an H1N1 variant. You
can buy this at Hill Country Natural Foods, or the Wimberley Pharmacy.

I will try to keep everyone posted if I have any new information. Meanwhile,
don't be afraid just avoid infection. The fewer people infected the easier
it will be for our public officials to manage it.

I know by now you all are probably getting tired of hearing me pound the point of the National Animal Identification System. It is serious for all of us. Just like Joseph and Pharoah of old, where the people of the land lost their livestock, this is an attempt to remove small family producers from the landscape making way for huge producers that have deep pockets. It will open Americans up to having to consume what THEY tell us to - stuff filled with hormones, anti-biotics, and God knows what else. It will also move control of our food supply to the government who will use it to control us. Please forward this notice to everyone you know and get them to stampeed their congressmen and senators and tell them NO to NAIS!

A House Subcommittee will be considering the National Animal Identification System (NAIS) on March 11. Please read this alert and take appropriate action now. This program will put every farmer, rancher and livestock owner under the direct control of the USDA. It will increase the cost of food for everyone. This is another government-control program that must be stopped. Please follow the advise offered in the alert.

URGENT NAIS UPDATE

Socialism at work - again! Another attempt by government to get control of the food supply…How will this legislation affect the people on the street? The price of all beef, chicken, lamb, etc, will plummet when the market floods with unwanted animals that are being dumped, then it will skyrocket because food will be provided only by the big Ag producers.

Cloaked in a shroud of ‘food safety’, this bill which was passed in the House in less than 24 hours will destroy the American farmer immediately, especially in times of serious economic distress. The reams of paperwork and associated costs will put them out of business!

I urge you to contact your state senators immediately and say NO to HR 1105! I have included a sample letter which you can copy and paste to notify them. THIS IS URGENT - PLEASE DON’T SLEEP THROUGH THIS!

This link will take you to a site that has a letter already penned:
http://salsa.democracyinaction.org/o/642/campaign.jsp?campaign_KEY=26666

Senator contacts: http://www.senate.gov/general/contact_information/senators_cfm.cfm

Sample letter: You can cut and paste!!!

Dear Senator ________

I am writing in urgency today as I just found out that H.R. 1105 is now in
the Senate and waiting to get passed. It has already cleared the House in less than 24 hours!

H.R. 1105 is about making a mandatory National Animal Identification System(NAIS). I already know that the NAIS equivalent in the EU has reduced private farms/livestock ownership by over 60%. I know people who have moved to the United States from the EU to get away from the devastation NAIS/DARD/APHIS has caused over there. NAIS is designed to eliminate private animal ownership and industrialize the global food supply. They will tell you it is going to stop disease, but it doesn't. Its only function is to eliminate the private animal owners from the food supply, thus industrializing agriculture and the entire global food supply. This happens as a direct result of all the required NAIS expenses, required paperwork, loss of property rights and privacy, and outrageous non-compliance fines. People from the EU described to me that they ended up having to do about 2 hours worth of paperwork each night in addition to working all day long, just to keep up with the NAIS/DARD/APHIS requirements.

All I can ask...beg of you, is to work diligently against NAIS and H.R. 1105, as it will completely wipe out the American farmers. All that will be left is the big disgusting Concentrated Animal Feeding Operations(CAF Os) that feed tons of antibiotics, hormones, and chemicals just to keep the million+ animals alive in those "cess pool farms". That is the face of Industrialized Agriculture-CAFOs. NAIS will lead to nothing but CAFOs for our food supply.

Wiping out America's healthy food growers at a time when the nation is already about to buckle under economic distress, will only put the final nails in our coffins and this country will look like a 3rd world country in no time at all.

NAIS is worse than any disease it hypes about preventing. NAIS is what farmers have to worry about in destroying all their animals, not any diseases. NAIS itself will be the most deadly thing in America's farms, if it gets passed. This, I know for a fact from my relationships with people who have come here from the EU reporting on what really happens 11 years into the UN's NAIS/DARD/APHIS program.

Please vote against H.R. 1105 today, and let me know that you did with an email.

Thank You!

STOP NAIS - Action Alert

Big government is at it again trying to strip the rights of small farmers throughout the country from surviving. If they have their way, farms will be a relic of the past in the near future.

NAIS, or the National Identification System will require tracking on every animal on the farm - from cows, horses, goats and sheep - to chickens and turkeys. Imagine the nightmare of tracking all this....and the extra cost of YOUR Tax dollars to maintain.

The U.S. House Agriculture Subcommittee on Livestock, Dairy and Poultry will hold a hearing on NAIS on March 11. Bills to put NAIS into law, HR875 and companion Senate S814, are being pushed through Congress, as well as an Appropriations Bill with funding for NAIS. This hearing is critical to blocking mandatory NAIS.

It is IMPERATIVE that everyone contact their local government officials and make your voice heard regarding NAIS. Don't think that because you don't own livestock that it won't affect YOU. It will - Please don't sleep on this one.

Please visit this web site NoNAIS.org. It will give you information on these antics and give you quick links to write our officials. Don't let them steal our rights to small farms in America.

Raw Milk In Texas - proposed law changes

The Texas Department of State Health Services is working on new rules governing milk and dairy products in Texas. It is important that everyone who cares about having access to raw milk and farmstead cheeses speak up during this process!

For several years, raw milk farmers in Texas have struggled with the restriction that raw milk may be sold directly to the consumer "only at the point of production, i.e. at the farm." The draft rules would make it even harder, by requiring that the farmer "offer for sale and distribute raw milk directly to the final consumer only at the point of production, i.e. at the farm." This new provision would prevent people from picking up their milk through carpools, agent arrangements, etc. The draft rules also require raw milk farmers to turn over a list of their customers to the government, and prevent people from even possessing raw milk that is not labeled and graded outside of their home.

The draft rules also create extensive permitting and regulatory burdens on family farms making farmstead cheeses. Currently, small-scale cheesemakers are required to have a single food manufacturing permit, but the draft rule would require two permits, each with higher fees, and expensive infrastructure and equipment.

The draft rules are available at Texas Draft Rules

TAKE ACTION
The deadline for submitting comments on the draft rule is March 6, 2009. Please note that the agency plans to formally propose rules in April, so this is just Round One!! This is a chance to speak up relatively early in the process, which is the best time to make real changes.

Send your comments via email to Gene.Wright@dshs.state.tx.us or by regular mail to Gene Wright, Manager, Milk and Dairy Group, Texas Department of State Health Services, P.O. Box 149347 MC 1987, Austin, Texas 78714-9347.

A sample letter is at the end of this alert. **Please take a few moments to personalize the letter, in particular the opening paragraph and the explanations for why you want the suggested changes. We do not want the agency to dismiss the comments as simply "form letters." Put the letter in your own words! This sample is intended to make it easier for you to comment, not to limit what you write.**

For more information, click here: Farm and Ranch Freedom or call 512-243-9404.

HELPFUL HINTS
1) Save a copy of your comments! This is an informal comment period, and we may need to submit the same comments again in the formal comment period.

2) Be very clear and tell them exactly what you want (e.g.: "I urge the agency to amend the regulations to allow Grade A raw milk producers to sell and distribute raw milk to consumers both on and off the farm.)

3) Briefly explain your reasons. Things like you want access to raw milk for your family, you don't have the time to drive out to the farm each week, you want to be able to put your milk in your own container to take it to work for lunch ... etc. The comments can be short, don't worry about going into detail.

4) Do not discuss what any farmer is currently doing, or how you get your milk. It's helpful to use personal stories to illustrate the benefits of raw milk, but stay focused on the effect of your raw milk consumption, not how you get that milk.

5) Be polite and friendly. Don't attack the agency's policies or personnel.

SAMPLE LETTER
Dear Mr. Wright:

Thank you for seeking comments on the agency's draft rules. I am an educated consumer, and I spend a lot of time and effort to find high-quality food for my family. I am very concerned about provisions in the draft rules that would limit my access to raw milk and artisan cheeses.

I urge the agency to make the following changes to the proposed rules:

1) Section 217.22 should be changed to allow the sale of raw milk directly to any consumer (not just the "final consumer"). Moreover, the sale and distribution of raw milk should not be limited to the point of production, but allow sales at the farm, farmers markets, farm stands, consumers' residences, private delivery locations, and through agents specifically designated by the consumer.

As a consumer, I want increased access to raw milk, not reduced access. Limiting the sale and distribution of raw milk to the final consumer at the point of production means that each individual who wants to buy raw milk must personally drive out to the farm to buy it, which costs both time and money. What health or safety reason can there be for this requirement? All it does is make it harder for consumers like me to get access to a product we want. It wastes gasoline and money, at a time when we are trying to conserve both.

2) Section 217.17(g), which requires a producer to provide a list of his or her customers to the government, should be deleted.

I value my privacy, and object to the government being provided with information on my purchases simply because I may choose to buy raw dairy products. If the milk is contaminated, then the agency can issue a public notice to that effect, just as it does with any contaminated food product.

3) The last sentence in Section 217.13 -- "It shall be unlawful for any person, elsewhere than in a private home, to have in their possession any adulterated, misbranded, or ungraded milk" -- should be deleted.

This provision could be interpreted to mean that an individual who pours milk into an unlabeled jar to take to work or a park would be acting illegally. Possession of ungraded and unlabeled raw dairy should not be illegal, regardless of the location.

4) Section 217.67 should be amended to clarify that a small-scale cheese-maker does not need a separate room for each stage of cheesemaking, as long as there are clean and sanitary areas for each stage. The section should also allow for the use of any method of pasteurization that has been proven effective, rather than requiring equipment that costs several thousands of dollars. Sections 217.61, 217.63, and 217.81 should be changed to keep the current fee schedule (based on gross sales) and allow for a single permit, rather than charging flat fees and requiring small-scale cheesemakers to hold two separate permits (dairy farm permit and a dairy product manufacturing permit).

The draft rule would be very expensive for people making farmestead cheeses on a small scale. So long as the cheese is made in a sanitary, safe fashion, the agency should not require expensive equipment and infrastructure. And someone who sells $5,000 worth of cheeses a year should not be subject to the same fees as a large company selling millions of dollars of products.

I appreciate the difficulty the agency faces in regulating the wide range of dairy products made in Texas. But food safety does not mean regulating small farmers out of business, and the agency should not create unfair marketing barriers to products such as raw milk and farmstead cheeses. I urge you to make the changes listed above before publishing the proposed rules.

A WORD FROM BILL

A economic parallel from Bill Cloud Ministries

Iceberg Dead Ahead!
The Titanic Revisited

http://www.billcloud.com

"Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall." ‑ Proverbs 16:18

Since I first heard the story of the R.M.S. Titanic, I have been fascinated with the tale of the “unsinkable ship” that sunk. I have read countless books and watched almost every television program devoted to the fabled vessel. My interest took a significant if somewhat different turn when, in spring 1994, I re-read Walter Lord’s classic account of the ill-fated voyage, A Night To Remember. Though I had read the book several times, it was during this reading that I began to notice some interesting details I had never paid much attention to – details that seemed to have a prophetic twist to them. I jotted these points down thinking they might come in handy one day, perhaps for an article.

In December 1997, the blockbuster film, Titanic, was released to throngs of movie-goers and spent multiple weeks as the number one film in America. The 3 ½ hour epic depicted in vivid detail that unforgettable night in April 1912, and eventually went on to become the top box office hit of all time. The movie also rekindled global interest in the once-great ship that, sadly, lay rusting away at the bottom of the Atlantic. Not long after the film’s release, I finally wrote that article - Iceberg Dead Ahead: A Titanic Message from God - first published by God’s News Behind the News.

Though partly inspired by the success of the film, the main reason for the article was to share some of those peculiar details I had stumbled upon almost four years earlier and to see whether or not God was speaking to this generation through Titanic’s story and, yes, even the movie version. I was convinced then that He was, and I remain convinced that He is speaking through this fascinating story even today. That became clearer to me recently while I was watching yet another documentary of a recent Titanic expedition. For that reason, I decided to revisit this story and see if the updates Titanic explorers have provided in recent years have anything prophetic to say to us ten years after I first wrote of the sinking’s futuristic implications.

April 14, 1912 - 11:40 PM

In the crow's nest, lookouts Frederick Fleet and Reginald Lee braced themselves for what looked to be a head‑on collision. For the thirty-seven seconds that followed Fleet's warning of “Iceberg, dead ahead!” the two held their breath as they watched the berg, glistening in the starlit night, coming closer and closer. At the last second, the great liner began to turn and looked as if she might clear the ice, but then - a gentle nudge. Later, witnesses said they heard a slight grinding noise. Others felt a small bump. Yet, no one, except those few in the lower decks, realized the severity of the situation in the initial moments of the collision. The ship had indeed struck the iceberg and was taking on water fast. Thus was the beginning of the end for R.M.S. Titanic - the greatest maritime disaster the world has yet to see.

After assessing the damage Mr. Thomas Andrews, the ship’s designer, reported to Captain E.J. Smith that the Titanic was going down. Andrews explained that the Titanic could stay afloat with any two of her sixteen watertight compartments flooded. She could float with any three of her first five compartments flooded. She could even float with all of her first four compartments gone, but under no circumstances could she float with all of her first five compartments full. It seems that the very scenario required to doom the unsinkable Titanic had, in fact, happened. The newly developed electronic watertight doors were supposed to have prevented this from happening. Yet, all the doors were shut and it made no difference. The Titanic was sinking.

Stunned, Captain Smith ordered for the life boats to be uncovered. Sadly, there weren't enough boats for the more than two thousand passengers because it had been concluded they wouldn't be needed. Smith himself had remarked before leaving Southampton, “I cannot imagine any condition which would cause a ship to founder. I cannot conceive of any vital disaster happening to this vessel. Modern shipbuilding has gone beyond that.” Yet, here he was, commanding the biggest and safest ship ever built and the architect had just informed him that it could not stay afloat.
Perhaps he reminded himself of the five ice warnings he had received that very day. A sixth warning, one Smith may never have seen, had come from the S.S. Californian, a small ship sitting motionless in order to avoid floating ice – and just ten miles away. Her radio operator had tried to warn the Titanic as late as 11:00 P.M. but was told to “Shut up. I am busy” – busy sending unimportant missives to the mainland prompted by wealthy passengers enamored with the Marconi wireless system. The Californian was commanded by Captain Stanley Lord (no relation to the author of the aforementioned book). Just before midnight Lord decided to retire and suggested that the radio operator do the same. At 12:15 A.M., Californian's radio went silent for the night. Just a short distance over the horizon, Capt. Smith ordered Titanic's radio operator to send the distress signal. The time was 12:15 A.M.!

Through the night, Titanic's crew tried desperately to raise help. Legend has it that the first S.O.S. in history was signaled from the decks of the Titanic on this night. Tragically, no ship was close enough to be of any aid - except one. Most people believe that ship to have been the Californian and so, while the Titanic sank, Captain Lord, commander of the only ship who could save them, slept.
Just two hours later, R.M.S. Titanic sat perpendicular in the calm, icy waters of the north Atlantic. Survivor Jack Thayer observed “groups of the almost 1500 people still aboard (two-thirds of the ship’s passengers), clinging in clusters or bunches, like swarming bees; only to fall in masses, pairs or singly as the great after-part of the ship rose into the sky.” To Lady Duff Gordon, the ship against the starry sky resembled a finger pointing up to heaven. She also described the berg's collision with the ship “as though someone had drawn a giant finger all along the side of the boat.”

Perhaps at that final moment, Mrs. Albert Caldwell recalled a conversation she had with one of the deck hands before leaving Southampton. As Mrs. Caldwell watched the luggage being carried onboard, she asked one of the porters “Is this ship really non-sinkable?” “Yes lady,” he replied, “God himself could not sink this ship.” Yet, at 2:20 A.M. she watched in horror as the dark Atlantic waters closed over Titanic's stern, never to be seen again until seventy-four years later.

Why She Sank

In the past twenty years, deep sea research has made it possible to clear up some of the mysteries that have surrounded the sinking of the Titanic. While she sat lost on the ocean floor, experts deliberated over different aspects of the sinking: the extent of the damage inflicted by the iceberg; why, in spite of her ingenious design, she sank so fast, and if she broke up as she sank. The answer to that particular question was put to rest, in part at least, upon the discovery of the wreck in 1986. The Titanic did, indeed, break up before arriving at her final resting place, two miles beneath the surface. Two monstrous heaps of rusting steel and tons of debris of every size litter the ocean floor in an area a mile long. Recent findings further suggest that the break-up is, in fact, the key to obtaining answers to the other primary questions – the amount of damage sustained upon impact and the cause for the rapid sinking.

In 2007, experts met at the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute to analyze data obtained from recent voyages to the wreck and re-evaluate some of the theories for the Titanic’s quick and dramatic demise. The current evidence pinpoints where the Titanic actually hit the iceberg and suggests that the ship was far more seriously damaged in the collision than previously realized. It was formerly thought that the collision left a long gash in the ship's side below the waterline, causing it to fill until it broke its back and nose-dived to the seabed, the forward section ahead of the separating stern section. But upon examining the latest finds, experts now think that the ship rode up on the berg, with the result that a large section of its lower hull was ripped out. This was likely to have been the primary cause of the ship's breaking in two, rather than its filling with water. In other words, the ship sank because it broke up, rather than it broke up because it sank.

In the past it was thought that the Titanic took on water causing the stern to rise in the air with the subsequent weight strain causing the steel to fail. Instead, according to this newer evidence, as water was flooding compartments, the break up began much sooner and at the top of the ship, not at the keel. This collapse at the top is what actually put strain on the rest of the ship. So, rather than the water causing the stern to rise, the break up caused it to rise. As the break up accelerated, the bow ripped apart and plunged to the bottom, causing the stern to settle back down into the sea. Many survivors later claimed that, at this point, they thought the Titanic was righting itself. Unfortunately, they were wrong and the end came quickly. As a matter of fact, based on this latest evidence, the ship may have broken up and sunk more quickly than many people realized. In other words, even though they knew the ship was sinking, the 1500 still on board were taken completely by surprise as the ship began to break up. They thought they had enough time for rescuers to arrive.

Some have theorized that another contributing factor to the break up was brittle steel. Tests have suggested that the steel used to build Titanic contained microscopic imperfections that, when exposed to the subfreezing waters of the North Atlantic, caused the steel to fracture. If true, though the world hailed it as the greatest accomplishment of mankind to date, Titanic had an Achilles’ heel known only to God. The twenty-five thousand tons of steel assembled by fifteen thousand men over two years was destroyed in just a matter of minutes. All it took was the right kind of conditions – the perfect storm if you will - to expose the fatal weakness.
Finally, the destruction of Titanic seems to be absolute and complete. Analysis has concluded that micro-organisms are slowly, but surely, eating away at the ship’s rusty hull. In effect, the ship is turning to dust. Chances are, it will simply disintegrate before technology will allow for any large scale recovery. So much for the ship that God couldn't sink.

What If?

Close to a century has elapsed since the “unsinkable” liner went down and, through the years, Titanic has become an historical enigma forever linked to tragedy. Perhaps because of its fatal reputation, we forget that the White Star Line's proudest achievement was probably the greatest human accomplishment of her time, both technologically and culturally. Still, from the very moment her keel was laid, it seemed she was destined to disaster. The combination of human error, weather conditions and, perhaps, providence, all occurring in their proper place and order, provided an unalterable formula for disaster. It is reasonable to assume, then, that at least a few people of that era would have interpreted this catastrophe as a wake-up call from the Almighty.

The great steamer represented the very best the Gilded Age had to offer - abundance, extravagance, amusement, and perceived safety and security. It was unsinkable and impenetrable, the ultimate in human endeavor, the pinnacle of man's ingenuity. The builders, crew and passengers were indulging in an enormous materialistic binge, with no thought of the imminent danger, destruction and death just ahead. Just eat, drink and be merry. Ignoring numerous warnings, the Titanic raced on to her date with destiny.

What if they had heeded the warnings? Because they didn’t, I suggest that it was not the iceberg, necessarily, that sank her. What if they had opted to have adequate lifeboats for all her passengers and crew? They didn’t and, so, it was not the bone-chilling waters of the Atlantic that ultimately killed over fifteen hundred people. No, the cradle of this disaster was in the hearts of those who owned her, those who built her, those who commanded her and, yes, even those who traveled on her. The culprit was P-R-I-D-E!

Those who built and commanded the Titanic were so proud of her, in fact, that they couldn’t conceive of anything that could cause her demise. They never seriously considered that an iceberg – formed over decades, if not centuries before – would break away from an ice field and drift directly into their path. When the dreaded obstacle did materialize out of the night, what if the Titanic had not tried to maneuver around it? In other words, what if the Titanic had struck the berg head on? Experts explain that in this scenario, though she would have been crippled, the Titanic would have stayed afloat and could have been towed into Halifax to be repaired. Later, she could have returned to sea and served White Star for many years. Thus the final and tragic mistake in a long series of “what ifs” occurred when First Officer William Murdoch tried to get around the iceberg instead of meeting it head on.

We should not find this surprising. Anyone in his situation would have done the same, because that is our way. Human nature compels us to try and avoid the problems and obstacles that surface in our life. What we must realize is that, most often, our arrogance and foolhardiness prior to these dramatic encounters is what creates these problems in the first place. Bad choices, coupled with our resistance to God's instructions, place us on a collision course with disaster. Unfortunately sometimes, God must use these devastating obstacles to get our attention. Yet even then, they do not have to be fatal. If we could learn to deal with our self-induced problems head on, instead of trying to skirt around them, we would be much better off. As we have learned from Titanic, it is a dangerous thing to try and get around what God places in our path.

Better still - don’t ever let it come to that. Let us not be deceived into thinking that our achievements, wealth and prominence permit us to second-guess or defy outright the authority and principles of our Creator. Pride seduces us to think that our advancements – whether technological or philosophical – are capable of erasing the boundaries established by Scripture for living life. As we “evolve,” we develop the attitude that “God Himself couldn’t sink this ship.” This way of thinking, however, doesn’t testify of an evolving human condition but one that is devolving. In short, we aren’t getting smarter; we are getting dumber. Despite our abundance, we aren’t getting richer, but poorer and all because of P-R-I-D-E. Yet sadly, we have come to regard ourselves as so advanced that we don’t need God anymore. The situation reminds me of what my dad used to tell me when I was an “all-knowing” teenager – “Much learning has made you mad.”

Prophetic Implications

You would think that mankind would have learned from the past and vowed never to repeat the same mistakes. You would think. Sooner or later, though, there comes a time when our rebellious attitude and lifestyle reaps the accursed bounty of our deeds. At large, humanity is at the cusp of a time unlike anything ever experienced since the days of Noah (a guy who built the largest ship of his day). Considering this, I am of the belief that, not only did Titanic’s disastrous tale indict the attitudes and actions of the Edwardian world, but it continues to speak to this wayward generation and, specifically, to modern America.

Like Titanic, the world and, in particular, our nation is steaming ahead with blind confidence, oblivious to the dangers ahead. Yes, we have received the warnings and at times they have caused us to hesitate for a moment (e.g. Sept. 11, 2001). However, the pundits remind us that we have sailed treacherous waters before – we’ll get through this tough time just like we always have, they say. Take no thought of eternal values or impending judgment for those who believe in such things are simply right-wing religious fanatics. Everything will bounce back. Ignore those silly warnings - full steam ahead! What if, though, there is an iceberg ahead?

Like those who piloted Titanic, our nation’s leaders – political, business and otherwise - know the potential for danger that lurks on the horizon. In fact, many times they use these threats as a means of getting elected or influencing markets. How many of them, however, have considered changing course when confronted by these problems? How many of them are determined to meet the obstacles head on as opposed to trying to skirt around them? Most importantly, how many of them have considered the warnings as being God’s way of getting our attention? Though it is easy to blame our leaders for the dangers we face, we need to remember that it wasn’t the designer or captain of the Titanic that told Mrs. Caldwell God couldn’t sink the ship, it was the lowly porter. Moreover, it was the two-thousand passengers who trusted and, by their actions, reinforced this sentiment; many of them refusing to board life boats even as the bow was slowly slipping under the sea. Therefore, I suggest that our more prominent citizens are merely a reflection of the attitudes and actions of the average American. Our collective mindset is that, in spite of the dangers we face, nothing could really cause us to founder. Though we may suffer difficulties, nothing could really cause us to go under. God would not allow it – would He?

If there is something that is able to get our attention quicker than anything else, I will suggest it is our pocketbook. In spite of the War on Terror, potential famine and other pressing issues, most Americans still see the economy – i.e. rising fuel prices and loss of revenues - as the number one issue that motivates them at the ballot box. I find this incredible and primarily for this reason: even though the Titanic was designed, built and manned by British, she was owned by an American – J.P. Morgan in fact. Let me put it this way: the Titanic – the ship that God couldn’t sink - is a picture of American economy and enterprise. So, I wonder - is there an iceberg ahead? If we have put the dollar ahead of Him, might God allow that dollar to disappear? Have our advancements and the amenities they spawned lured us into a false sense of security and contentment? If so, is that false security so entrenched in our national psyche that we cannot discern fantasy from reality? I should point out that many of those who perished on the Titanic did so because they could not bring themselves to leave the perceived safety and comfort of the great ship to get into a small, rickety lifeboat.

Recall there was a ship – the Californian - that could have responded quickly to Titanic’s distress signal. Ironically, it was the same ship that tried to warn the Titanic of the approaching ice but was told to “shut up.” Recall also the name of the ship's captain: L-O-R-D! Could this be coincidence? Is it also coincidental that Captain Lord was the only one who could have given the order to rush to Titanic’s rescue and save her passengers? As we know, he didn’t – he was asleep. Consider the following passages.

“Because I have called and you refused, I have stretched out my hand and no one regarded, because you disdained all my counsel, and would have none of my rebuke, I also will laugh at your calamity; I will mock when your terror comes, when your terror comes like a storm, and your destruction comes like a whirlwind, when distress and anguish come upon you. Then they will call on me, but I will not answer; they will seek me diligently, but they will not find me; because they hated knowledge and did not choose the fear of the LORD. They would have none of my counsel and despised my every rebuke. Therefore they shall eat the fruit of their own way, and be filled to the full with their own fancies. For the turning away of the simple will slay them, and the complacency of fools will destroy them; but whoever listens to me will dwell safely, and will be secure, without fear of evil." (Proverbs 1:24-33)

It is hard for some to believe that God would not intervene if and when our nation begins to break up. Think about it. In spite of our stirring renditions of “God bless America,” as a nation, we've effectively told God, “We don't need you.” When He has sent multiple warnings – whether natural, political or economic - we have essentially told Him to “Shut up. We’re busy.” So, when we begin to see the consequence of our actions, is it reasonable to conclude that God will not rescue us? Even so, we know that all who listen to and obey Him will be secure. As our Father, He provides care for His people in the midst of difficult circumstances. Though a remnant, were there not a number of survivors of the Titanic disaster? Not to be overlooked, though, is the fact that from the moment they stepped into the lifeboats, there lives changed forever.

Like the Titanic, our culture has inherent weaknesses – brittle steel if you will - that are now truly being exposed by current conditions. Primarily, I believe these to be our incessant drive to achieve wealth and power and our distorted view of liberty. Face it: even our poorest citizens are wealthy when compared to the standard of living in most third world countries, and yet, the rich in our nation seek more riches and more power. Unfortunately, this misguided inclination can be found even in our churches and fellowships. When it comes to our pursuit of “freedom,” many of our citizens think that living in a democratic society entitles us to whatever our heart desires – even if it defies laws established by the Creator. By the way, this way of thinking didn’t begin in the 20th century but was already evident not long after the birth of our nation. Not surprisingly, these moral deficiencies, coupled with our arrogant approach to the future, have created an environment by which we thinking nothing of sailing headlong at top throttle in spite of the warnings of what lies ahead. Thus, it seems that our faulty virtues are on the brink of being completely exposed by the “perfect storm” that is brewing in the world. Yet, like the Titanic, our weaknesses are not the result of our sinking; we are sinking because of our weaknesses.

Where the economy is concerned, I think most rational people understand that there are tough times ahead. The lingering uncertainty lies in this question: is the ship destined to sink beneath us or will someone come to our rescue in time? How one, standing on the sloping decks of the Titanic, resolved this question probably determined whether they lived or died. While we ponder this question, recall that experts now believe most of those who perished thought they had a lot more time and were probably taken by complete surprise when the sinking ship began to break apart.

Some Final Observations

That it was the Titanic that sunk, and in the Atlantic I might add, is itself a hint that this century-old event was no accident. Furthermore, these facts convince me that God is indeed speaking to this generation and, specifically, our nation at this time. Consider this: the Atlantic Ocean gets its name from Atlas, one of the Titans in Greek mythology. In fact, Atlas fought with the Titans against the deities of Mount Olympus – he was a rebel in other words. After their defeat, the Titans were banished to Tartarus (synonymous with Hades) by Zeus. Of course, the Titans are the inspiration for the name, “Titanic” – ironic wouldn’t you say? Here is what is really interesting though: Atlantis, the fabled utopia of antiquity, is also associated with the Atlantic and, in fact, supposedly disappeared under the ocean after a violent earthquake. For centuries, explorers and historians have tried to determine if there was such a place and, if so, where? Some of the places that are believed to be the ancient Atlantis are the isle of Crete, the Canary Islands, the Scandinavian Peninsula, and, believe it or not, America. Could it be?

Again, I know that it is hard to believe that America, at least as we have known it, may be living out her final days and, yet, who can deny that this country is facing unprecedented dangers with the promise of more to come? This would be bad enough, but to face these times while our society is consistently and energetically pursuing agendas that incite the ire of a holy God is indeed frightening. Therefore, it is my OPINION that American culture has already struck the proverbial iceberg and the initial damage was much more than we imagined. Those on the “lower decks” can easily discern that the ship is going down but are, in their own abilities, powerless to do anything about it. Those who are in servitude to the culture are committed to remain at their posts regardless of the outcome. Those at the top, intoxicated with their power and luxuries, are too stubborn and too proud to realize that the ship may actually be sinking beneath their feet. I’m sure that, whatever their station in life may be, many Americans feel that, in spite of the difficulties ahead, somehow, someway, something will change things for the better and life will go on just like it always has – we’ve got plenty of time. That is, apparently, what two-thirds of the passengers on R.M.S. Titanic thought too – but they’re all dead.

Earlier I mentioned that some of the witnesses noted that, as the bow broke away and plunged downward, the stern section settled back into the sea. Some thought, momentarily, that the ship was going to right itself. That hope was short-lived. With that in mind, allow me to make an observation. Obviously, America’s fascination with our pocket book dictates much of what the cultures thinks and does. That the future health of the economy is in question has many people troubled, some even terrified, about the security of their lifestyles. So what if the economic scenario in America plays out exactly as it did for the Titanic? In other words, most can see that the ship is struggling to stay afloat but most are not willing to accept that it may go under. What if something unexpected and quite dramatic happens that causes the ship to “break up” and carry many under with it before help arrives? After the initial shock of this steep downturn, what if the economic ship appeared to “right” itself inspiring people to think that the worst was over - only to see the bottom fall out? Am I making a prediction? No, it is just a thoughtful observation.

The finality of my message is that Titanic - the ship that God couldn't sink – sunk. Not only were human lives destroyed, but another icon in the long line of icons that man had built and dedicated to himself met its demise. Soon, the once great liner will be nothing more than dust. So in the final analysis, Titanic, like the Tower of Babel, is another grim reminder of what happens when we become so enamored with ourselves that we dare defy the judgment of a sovereign God. Therefore, let us heed the warnings. There is an iceberg dead ahead!

Genetically Modified Foods and Scripture

Gen 1:11 And God said, Let the earth bring forth grass, the herb yielding seed, and the fruit tree yielding fruit after his kind, whose seed is in itself, upon the earth: and it was so.
Gen 1:12 And the earth brought forth grass, and herb yielding seed after his kind, and the tree yielding fruit, whose seed was in itself, after his kind: and God saw that it was good.

Lev 19:19 Ye shall keep my statutes. Thou shalt not let thy cattle gender with a diverse kind: thou shalt not sow thy field with mingled seed: neither shall a garment mingled of linen and woollen come upon thee.

Deu 28:1
And it shall come to pass, if thou shalt hearken diligently unto the voice of the LORD thy God, to observe [and] to do all his commandments which I command thee this day, that the LORD thy God will set thee on high above all nations of the earth:

Deu 28:2
And all these blessings shall come on thee, and overtake thee, if thou shalt hearken unto the voice of the LORD thy God.

Deu 28:3
Blessed [shalt] thou [be] in the city, and blessed [shalt] thou [be] in the field.

Deu 28:4
Blessed [shall be] the fruit of thy body, and the fruit of thy ground, and the fruit of thy cattle, the increase of thy kine, and the flocks of thy sheep.

Deu 28:5
Blessed [shall be] thy basket and thy store.

So....What's wrong with Genetically Modified Foods - it brings forth curses! The Evil One has allowed us to buy a lie - again - in the area of food! NOTHING is new under the sun.

Deu 28:15
But it shall come to pass, if thou wilt not hearken unto the voice of the LORD thy God, to observe to do all his commandments and his statutes which I command thee this day; that all these curses shall come upon thee, and overtake thee:

Deu 28:16
Cursed [shalt] thou [be] in the city, and cursed [shalt] thou [be] in the field.

Deu 28:17
Cursed [shall be] thy basket and thy store.

Deu 28:18
Cursed [shall be] the fruit of thy body, and the fruit of thy land, the increase of thy kine, and the flocks of thy sheep.

What does Kosher even mean if there is human DNA in rice? http://snipurl.com/bowey

The Torah commands of not mixing seed given from God continues to have a significant impact on the way many observant Jews and Messianic believers go about their daily lives.

Sugarcane engineered with human genes (Hawaii Agriculture Research Center)

Corn engineered with jellyfish genes (Stanford University)

Rice engineered with human genes (Applied Phytologics)

What do we do? Do we simply accept the lies of Monsanto (and others)that have made a mockery of Biblical dietary laws, making them not only impossible to keep but subjecting believers to the nightmare of keeping vegetables separate from animal DNA?

Lubavitch Rabbi Yossi Serebryanski ..., a kosher supervisor ... said he has "stopped eating tomatoes and only eats potatoes he knows are organic. ... he fears that genes from non-kosher foods, such as pigs or insects, could be implanted in vegetables and Jews may unwittingly break kosher laws by eating them."... One Jewish man has even sued the U.S. Dept. of Agriculture (USDA) for failing to require labeling of products containing genetically modified foods, on the grounds that because of the laws of kilayim , his religious freedoms as a Jew are being violated if he cannot distinguish between GMO foods and non-GMO foods. http://snipurl.com/bp172

The fear and respect for God's word is gone from this society and we are now reaping the whirlwind of our own brilliant scientific discoveries - feeding the world - ha, killing us all through toxic food - death again through deception.

The Multiple ways Monsanto is putting seeds out of reach!

We HAVE to do something as a nation....or else food will NO longer be FOOD! If you garden, Please purchase heirloom seeds to continue having seed that is pure.

By Linn Cohen-Cole

People say if farmers don’t want problems from Monsanto, just don’t buy their GMO seeds.
Not so simple. Where are farmers supposed to get normal seed these days? How are they supposed to avoid contamination of their fields from GM-crops? How are they supposed to stop Monsanto detectives from trespassing or Monsanto from using helicopters to fly over spying on them?

Monsanto contaminates the fields, trespasses onto the land taking samples and if they find any GMO plants growing there (or say they have), they then sue, saying they own the crop. It’s a way to make money since farmers can’t fight back and court and they settle because they have no choice.

And they have done and are doing a bucket load of things to keep farmers and everyone else from having any access at all to buying, collecting, and saving of NORMAL seeds.

1. They’ve bought up the seed companies across the Midwest.
2. They’ve written Monsanto seed laws and gotten legislators to put them through, that make cleaning, collecting and storing of seeds so onerous in terms of fees and paperwork and testing and tracking every variety and being subject to fines, that having normal seed becomes almost impossible (an NAIS approach to wiping out normal seeds). Does your state have such a seed law? Before they existed, farmers just collected the seeds and put them in sacks in the shed and used them the next year, sharing whatever they wished with friends and neighbors, selling some if they wanted. That’s been killed.
In Illinois, which has such a seed law, Madigan, the Speaker of the House, his staff is Monsanto lobbyists.
3. Monsanto is pushing anti-democracy laws (Vilsack’s brainchild, actually) that remove community’ control over their own counties so farmers and citizens can’t block the planting of GMO crops even if they can contaminate other crops. So if you don’t want a GM-crop that grows industrial chemicals or drugs or a rice growing with human DNA in it, in your area and mixing with your crops, tough luck.
Check the map of just where the Monsanto/Vilsack laws are and see if your state is still a democracy or is Monsanto’s. A farmer in Illinois told me he heard that Bush had pushed through some regulation that made this true in every state. People need to check on that.
4. For sure there are Monsanto regulations buried in the FDA right now that make a farmer’s seed cleaning equipment illegal (another way to leave nothing but GM-seeds) because it’s now considered a “source of seed contamination.” Farmer can still seed clean but the equipment now has to be certified and a farmer said it would require a million to a million and half dollar building and equipment … for EACH line of seed. Seed storage facilities are also listed (another million?) and harvesting and transport equipment. And manure. Something that can contaminate seed. Notice that chemical fertilizers and pesticides are not mentioned.
You could eat manure and be okay (a little grossed out but okay). Try that with pesticides and fertilizers. Indian farmers have. Their top choice for how to commit suicide to escape the debt they have been left in is to drink Monsanto pesticides.
5. Monsanto is picking off seed cleaners across the Midwest. In Pilot Grove, Missouri, in Indiana (Maurice Parr), and now in southern Illinois (Steve Hixon). And they are using US marshals and state troopers and county police to show up in three cars to serve the poor farmers who had used Hixon as their seed cleaner, telling them that he or their neighbors turned them in, so across that 6 county areas, no one talking to neighbors and people are living in fear and those farming communities are falling apart from the suspicion Monsanto sowed. Hixon’s office got broken into and he thinks someone put a GPS tracking device on his equipment and that’s how Monsanto found between 200-400 customers in very scattered and remote areas, and threatened them all and destroyed his business within 2 days.
So, after demanding that seed cleaners somehow be able to tell one seed from another (or be sued to kingdom come) or corrupting legislatures to put in laws about labeling of seeds that are so onerous no one can cope with them, what is Monsanto’s attitude about labeling their own stuff? You guessed it - they’re out there pushing laws against ANY labeling of their own GM-food and animals and of any exports to other countries. Why?
We know and they know why.

As Norman Braksick, the president of Asgrow Seed Co. (now owned by Monsanto) predicted in the Kansas City Star (3/7/94) seven years ago, “If you put a label on a genetically engineered food, you might as well put a skull and crossbones on it.”
And they’ve sued dairy farmers for telling the truth about their milk being rBGH-free, though rBGH is associated with an increased risk of breast, colon and prostate cancers.
I just heard that some seed dealers urge farmers to buy the seed under the seed dealer’s name, telling the farmers it helps the dealer get a discount on seed to buy a lot under their own name. Then Monsanto sues the poor farmer for buying their seed without a contract and extorts huge sums from them.

Here’s a youtube video that is worth your time. Vandana Shiva is one of the leading anti-Monsanto people in the world. In this video, she says (and this video is old), Monsanto had sued 1500 farmers whose fields had simply been contaminated by GM-crops. Listen to all the ways Monsanto goes after farmers.

Do you know the story of Gandhi in India and how the British had salt laws that taxed salt? The British claimed it as theirs. Gandhi had what was called a Salt Satyagraha, in which people were asked to break the laws and march to the sea and collect the salt without paying the British. A kind of Boston tea party, I guess.

Thousands of people marched 240 miles to the ocean where the British were waiting. As people moved forward to collect the salt, the British soldiers clubbed them but the people kept coming. The non-violent protest exposed the British behavior, which was so revolting to the world that it helped end British control in India.

Vandana Shiva has started a Seed Satyagraha - nonviolent non-cooperation around seed laws - has gotten millions of farmers to sign a pledge to break those laws.
American farmers and cattlemen might appreciate what Gandhi fought for and what Shiva is bringing back and how much it is about what we are all so angry about - loss of basic freedoms. [The highlighting is mine.]

The Seed Satyagraha is the name for the nonviolent, noncooperative movement that Dr. Shiva has organized to stand against seed monopolies. According to Dr. Shiva, the name was inspired by Gandhi’s famous walk to the Dandi Beach, where he picked up salt and said, “You can’t monopolize this which we need for life.” But it’s not just the noncooperation aspect of the movement that is influenced by Gandhi. The creative side saving seeds, trading seeds, farming without corporate dependence–without their chemicals, without their seed.
” All this is talked about in the language that Gandhi left us as a legacy. We work with three key concepts.”
” (One) Swadeshi…which means the capacity to do your own thing–produce your own food, produce your own goods….”
“(Two) Swaraj–to govern yourself. And we fight on three fronts–water, food, and seed. JalSwaraj is water independence–water freedom and water sovereignty. Anna Swaraj is food freedom, food sovereignty. And Bija Swaraj is seed freedom and seed sovereignty. Swa means self–that which rises from the self and is very, very much a deep notion of freedom.
“I believe that these concepts, which are deep, deep, deep in Indian civilization, Gandhi resurrected them to fight for freedom. They are very important for today’s world because so far what we’ve had is centralized state rule, giving way now to centralized corporate control, and we need a third alternate. That third alternate is, in part, citizens being able to tell their state, ‘This is what your function is. This is what your obligations are,’ and being able to have their states act on corporations to say, ‘This is something you cannot do.’”
” (Three) Satyagraha, non-cooperation, basically saying, ‘We will do our thing and any law that tries to say that (our freedom) is illegal… we will have to not cooperate with it. We will defend our freedoms to have access to water, access to seed, access to food, access to medicine.’”

HR 778 - Bill to End Interstate Raw Milk Ban

For those that are fighting for the freedom to choose their 'food' this bill is very important! Remember, we don't pasturize breast milk......its raw.....and healthy. Please take action - small farmers need your support.

Ron Paul Introduces Bill to End Interstate Raw Milk Ban

On January 28 Congressman Ron Paul (R-TX) introduced HR 778, a bill “to authorize the interstate traffic of unpasteurized milk and milk products that are packaged for direct human consumption.” Under the bill, the federal government “may not take any action…that would prohibit, interfere with, regulate, or otherwise restrict the interstate traffic of milk, or a milk product, that is unpasteurized and packaged for direct human consumption solely on the basis that the milk or milk product is unpasteurized….” The bill defines “interstate traffic” as “the movement of any conveyance or the transportation of persons or property…from a point of origin in any State or possession to a point of destination in any other State or possession….” [see 21 CFR 1240.3(h)]

Passage of the bill into law would repeal the federal regulation prohibiting raw milk and raw milk products for human consumption in interstate commerce. The regulation 21 CFR 1240.61 provides, in part, that “no person shall cause to be delivered into interstate commerce or shall sell, otherwise distribute, or hold for sale or other distribution after shipment in interstate commerce any milk or milk product in final package form for direct human consumption unless the product has been pasteurized….”

The bill would not force a state to legalize the sale of raw milk by producers within its boundaries nor would it force a state to allow the sale of raw milk from out-of-state producers in its retail stores. The bill would enable consumers to enter into transactions to obtain raw milk and raw milk products from other states without the transactions being in violation of federal law.
The consumption of raw milk is legal in every state, yet its sale is currently illegal in about half the states. HR 778 would enable those living in states where the sale of raw milk is illegal—and those living in states where the sale is legal but sources are not present—to be able to exercise their legal right to consume raw milk. As Congressman Paul stated in introducing the bill, “Americans have the right to consume these products without having the Federal Government second-guess their judgment about what products best promote health. If there are legitimate concerns about the safety of unpasteurized milk, those concerns should be addressed at the state and local level.”

HR 778 has been assigned to the House Energy and Commerce Committee. An action alert will be sent out shortly to FTCLDF members on what can be done to move HR 778 forward. Co-sponsors are needed for the bill. Click here to be added to the mailing list.

Psalm 91:4 He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shalt thou trust: his truth shall be your shield and buckler.

So many truths and life applications show themselves at a farm. Living close to nature shows us so many things from God's great universe. He says in Romans 1:20 'For the invisible things of HIM from the creation of the world are clearly seen'.

As my journey with the Lord has progressed, I sought to find more 'understanding' in this scripture. I couldn't picture God as a big winged bird so I continued to seek....and knock....and then, began to see that this Hebrew book had mysterys that most Gentiles didn't understand.

Numbers 15:3 -41, the Lord had Moses instruct the people to make tassels on their garments to remember all the commands of the Lord.

"The Lord said to Moses, 'Speak to the Israelites and say to them: Throughout the generations to come, you are to make tassels on the corners of one's garments, with a blue cord on each tassel. You will have these tassels to look at and so will remember all the commands of the Lord, that you may obey them and not prostitute yourselves by going after the lusts of your own hearts and eyes. Then you will remember to obey all My commands, and will be consecrated to your God. I am the Lord your God.'"(Num. 15:37-41a

This was the beginning of what is called the tallit or talith (in Hebrew, “tal” means tent and “ith” means little, so, little tent!). So, as Moses went into the Tent of Meeting to meet with the Lord, the men had their own “little tent” in which to meet with the Lord. It was known as a place of refuge and sanctuary – a secret place! The Jewish men from their time in the wilderness until after the time of Yeshua (Jesus) have worn their little tents with tassels on the ends.

The first tallits were very simple, just one large piece of fabric with a hole in the middle for their head! And then on each of the four corners are tied the tassels. The corners of the tallit were referred to as “wings.” Between the 'wings' were small fringes that are called 'feathers'.

These tassels or 'wings' were to remind each Jewish man of his responsibility to fulfill God's commandments. In fact, these tassels are tied into 613 knots to constantly remind them of the 613 laws of Moses, of which there are 365 prohibitions (The "thou shalt not" laws), and 248 affirmations (the "thou shall" laws). The knots also correspond with the ineffable name of God, the unspoken yod-hey-vav-hey.

When deep in prayer, Jewish men will put these prayer shawls over their heads to shut out the world and be in the presence of God. This can be seen in the synagogue or at the Western Wall in Jerusalem. The prayer shawls are white, representing the heavens, or the dwelling place of the Lord. And, the color blue represents the Ruach HaKodesh, or Holy Spirit of God. Therefore, praying under the tallit, or prayer shawl, is covering yourself with the presence of God. From biblical times, this custom was like a prayer closet, and it is likely this is what Yeshua was referring to in Matthew 6:6, when He told us to get into our closet, apart from the people around, and pray in secret to the Lord.

The tallit was also worn by Yeshua, and the "hem of the garment" that was touched by the woman with the issue of blood was actually the tzitziyot or tassels of His tallit. When she pressed through the crowd, she was not content to just pat Him on the back. She was a desperate woman, who had spent all of her money on cures that did not work. It was a bold step for her to push through that crowd of people, for according to Levitical law, it was forbidden for her to be out in public with her condition, for she was considered unclean (Lev. 15:25). However, she was at the end of her rope. She had nothing to lose. She had heard of the Messiah who could heal and she anxiously sought Him out. But why did she want to touch the hem of His garment - the tassels of His tallit? These tzitziyot were a point of contact she needed to help her release her faith to receive a miracle in her life. What did they represent?

First, they represented the Word of God which begins with the Torah. It is always the place where we can find healing for all the needs in our life.

Second, the fringes also represented the authority of Yeshua. She had heard that many people were healed by Yeshua, that He taught with authority, and when He spoke, people were healed.

Third, there was even more to these fringes. The prophet Malachi spoke of the Messiah of Israel and said of Him, "But for you who revere My name, the sun of righteousness will rise with healing in His wings" (Mal. 4:2). The Hebrew word for "wings" used in this passage is kanaf, which is a word that specifically means the fringe-like feathers or edges of a bird's wing, not the whole wing. This word, therefore, had two meanings and could be translated wings, or fringes. The woman had heard Yeshua was the Messiah. Perhaps she remembered this messianic promise from the scroll of Malachi and thought, if I am to be healed, then will it be found in His wings... His tzitziyot? By faith, she reached out and touched the fringes, and was healed.

It is interesting that all though the TANAK/Old Testament, the Hebrew word for wings in most passages is kanaf when referring to God. Surely, the place of refuge is under the kanaf of the Lord, i.e., under His Word and His authority!
Have a blessed Sabbath!
